Love in Action
I have been very fortunate to watch YOKE mature over the years. In the beginning Y.O.K.E stood for Youth of Knoxville Evangelism, but soon became what I termed “Friendship Evangelism”. As the leaders became close friends (Yoked) to younger students, the gospel of love worked itself out in action and deeds. (Thus, the name YOKE Youth Ministries.)
I like the saying, “your actions speak so loud I can not hear what you are saying”. I have witnessed the agape love of a leader bring a not-so-lovable student into a deep friendship, all because the love of Jesus was manifested through the leader. This would then bring the student to accept the love of Jesus.
This can only happen if they are in relationship with Jesus. John 13:35 says, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (NLT) When leaders are growing closer to Jesus, as a byproduct they also grow stronger friendships. I still have a deep feeling of love and gratitude for the leaders I was privileged to get to know and serve with over the years.
This is also a good life lesson. It works in marriage, family, work, neighborhoods, and church relationships. It is just love in action! It has been exciting to see these young men and women take their place in society as they work and minister to others in the Kingdom of God.
In 1 Corinthians 13:13, Paul said, “Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.”
Judy and I wish you all a great Thanksgiving and may God bless.
