We’re excited for you to meet our newest team member, Josh Adams. Josh’s time as a YOKE Folk was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, but he stayed close to the organization and was eager to join our team this summer. He will be serving as the area director for our city schools, including Vine, Holston, South Doyle, Whittle Springs, Gresham, Bearden, and (hopefully) Northwest. We asked Josh to introduce himself in his own words.

I am originally from Houston, Texas and the 3rd of 7 kids from my mother Virgie Shaw. From 2020-2023, I attended Johnson University in Knoxville, where I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology and theology. I’m proud to say that I am a first-generation college graduate. In May of 2024, I also earned my master’s degree in ethical leadership from Johnson.

During my time at Johnson, YOKE was a constant presence on campus and in my classes, so I felt encouraged to reach out and learn more about the mission of YOKE. After a conversation with area director Daniel Lee, I decided to join the team at Vine Magnet Middle School during my freshman year of college. The experience made me want to stay connected to the organization in some way.

The time I spent volunteering with YOKE showed me the meaning of intentionality and consistency. As a follower of Jesus, I saw that showing up for young people can open the door to sharing the Gospel. The simple act of choosing to be obedient to God’s call is enriching.

I wanted to work for YOKE because I am passionate about the mission of sharing the Gospel with students. Middle School is an important period in a young person’s life and the perfect opportunity to introduce Jesus. YOKE gives me the chance to provide the students with a message of hope.

I’m looking forward to the relationships that I’ll be able to build through YOKE. I’m excited to share the journey with the staff members, YOKE Folk, and students. Most importantly, I’m happy to have a job that will allow me to keep growing in my own faith, so it’s exciting to be a part of the team.
